Golden Raisin Spiral Bread
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 large eggs (1 for dough, 1 for egg wash)
- 1/2 cup raisins (or other dried fruits)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and 1 beaten egg.
- Add the activated yeast mixture and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Add Raisins:
- Gently knead the raisins (or dried fruits) into the dough until evenly distributed.
- Proof the Dough:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the Bread:
- Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle.
- Roll the rectangle into a spiral, starting from one edge, and coil it into a spiral shape on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Egg Wash:
- Beat the remaining egg and brush it generously over the dough for a golden, shiny finish.
- Second Proof:
- Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for 30-40 minutes.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
