Sweet Fried Bread Recipe

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 10g active dry yeast
  • 50g sugar, plus extra for coating
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300ml warm milk
  • 50g melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Dough Preparation:
    • In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Kneading:
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  3. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Shaping:
    • Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten slightly. Make slits or patterns if desired.
  5. Second Rise:
    • Place the shaped dough on a tray, cover lightly, and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Frying:
    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 180°C (350°F). Fry the dough pieces in batches, turning once, until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Coating:
    • Remove from the oil and immediately roll in sugar while still hot.

Serve these sweet fried breads warm for a delicious treat that’s perfect for a snack or dessert. They’re particularly enjoyable with a cup of hot coffee or tea!
