Cheesy Potato Gratin
Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 2 cups shredded cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or a mix)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for greasing the dish)
- Fresh chives or parsley (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish or ramekins with butter.
- Prepare the Cream Mixture:
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer and then remove from heat.
- Assemble the Dish:
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish, slightly overlapping them.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and shredded cheese.
- Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake:
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before garnishing with fresh chives or parsley.
