Ham and Cheese Roulade
Ingredients:
- For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter

- 12-15 slices of ham
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella or Gruyère cheese

- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard (optional, for flavor)
- For the topping:
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
- Add milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover with a towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Roll Out the Dough:
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
- Add the Filling:
- Spread Dijon mustard or cream cheese evenly over the dough (optional).
- Arrange the ham slices evenly across the dough.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the ham, covering it evenly.
- Roll and Shape:
- Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other, forming a log shape.
- Place the roll in a greased baking dish seam-side down.
- Prepare for Baking:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the roll with the beaten egg and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake:
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on top.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.
- Serve:
- Slice the roulade into portions and serve warm. It pairs perfectly with a side salad or dipping sauces like marinara or garlic aioli.
