Savory Meat Turnovers Recipe
Ingredients:
- 500g puff pastry dough
- 300g minced beef or lamb
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling:
- Heat a pan over medium heat, add a little oil, and cook the onions until soft.
- Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the minced meat, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is browned. Set aside to cool.
- Assemble the Turnovers:
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Cut into rounds using a large cookie cutter.
- Spoon the meat mixture onto half of each round, leaving a margin at the edge.
- Fold the dough over the filling to form a semi-circle. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
- Cook the Turnovers:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush each turnover with beaten egg.
- Fry the turnovers until golden and crispy, about 3-5 minutes on each side.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
