Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
    • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1½ cups sugar
    • ¾ cup cocoa powder
    • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
    • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • ½ cup vegetable oil
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup boiling water
  • For the Chocolate Glaze:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
    • 2 tablespoons honey or corn syrup (optional, for extra gloss)
  • For Decoration:
    • Chocolate curls or shavings

Instructions:

Preparing the Cake:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9 inch cake pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the flour mixture and beat until well combined. Gradually add boiling water and mix until smooth. The batter will be thin.
  4. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool: Remove from oven and allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Preparing the Chocolate Glaze:

  1. Heat Cream: In a small saucepan, heat the cream until it just begins to simmer; do not boil.
  2. Make Glaze: Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy. Mix in honey or corn syrup if using.
  3. Cool Slightly: Let the glaze cool slightly until thick but still pourable.

Assembling the Cake:

  1. Glaze the Cake: Place the cooled cake on a serving plate and pour the chocolate glaze over the top, allowing some to drip down the sides.
  2. Add Chocolate Curls: Sprinkle chocolate curls or shavings over the glaze before it sets.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve this rich chocolate cake as a decadent dessert for any special occasion. It pairs wonderfully with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tips:

  • Cake Texture: For a moist cake, make sure not to overbake. Check the cake a few minutes before the stated baking time.
