Sushi Cake Recipe

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups sushi rice
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 10 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 1 large avocado, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 lb fresh salmon, thinly sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (black and white)
  • Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving

Instructions:

  1. Cook Sushi Rice:
    • Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
    • Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the machine’s instructions.
    • Once cooked, let it sit for 10 minutes, then mix in a combination of rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
  2. Layer the Sushi Cake:
    • Line a round cake pan with plastic wrap for easy removal.
    • Start with a layer of sushi rice, pressing it down into the bottom of the pan.
    • Add a layer of nori, followed by slices of cucumber, carrot, and salmon.
    • Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of sushi rice.
  3. Assemble the Toppings:
    • Carefully invert the cake onto a serving platter.
    • Arrange the sliced avocado on top of the rice, covering it completely.
    • Sprinkle the top with a mix of black and white sesame seeds.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve immediately with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
    • Use a sharp knife to slice the sushi cake into wedges.
