Pan-Fried Dumplings with Sweet & Savory Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Dumplings:
- 1 package of dumpling wrappers (or homemade dough)
- 1 cup finely chopped vegetables (e.g., carrots, cabbage, scallions)
- 1/2 cup protein of choice (tofu, ground chicken, pork, or shrimp)
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth or water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 tablespoon water)
For Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped scallions or parsley
Instructions:
1. Make the Dumpling Filling:

- In a bowl, mix vegetables, protein, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper.
- Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Wet the edges with water, fold, and seal tightly.
2. Cook the Dumplings:
- Heat vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Arrange dumplings in the skillet, flat side down. Cook until the bottoms are golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add 1/4 cup water to the skillet, cover, and steam for 5-6 minutes until the dumplings are cooked through. Uncover and let the remaining water evaporate.
3. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and chili flakes.
- Bring to a simmer and add the cornstarch slurry. Stir until thickened.
4. Assemble the Dish:
- Transfer the dumplings to a plate.
- Drizzle the sauce over the dumplings.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions.
