Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
Instructions:
- Cook the Spaghetti:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
- Drain and set aside, reserving some pasta water for adjusting the sauce consistency later if needed.
- Make the Meat Sauce:
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, and oregano. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently for 20-30 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine and Serve:
- Toss the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce, adding a bit of reserved pasta water if the sauce is too thick.
- Serve hot, sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
