Mini Bacon Cheddar Cheese Balls

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (reserve some for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp green onions, chopped (reserve some for garnish)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Pinch of black pepper

For Coating:

  • 1/4 cup crushed crackers (e.g., Ritz or pretzels)
  • 2 tbsp cooked and crumbled bacon
  • 2 tbsp shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
    • In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
    • Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape into Balls:
    • Using a tablespoon or small scoop, portion the mixture and roll it into bite-sized balls.
    • Place the balls on a plate or tray lined with parchment paper.
  3. Chill the Cheese Balls:
    • Refrigerate the cheese balls for at least 30 minutes to firm up and hold their shape.
  4. Prepare the Coating:
    • In a small bowl, mix crushed crackers, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, and green onions.
  5. Coat the Cheese Balls:
    • Roll each chilled cheese ball in the coating mixture until fully covered. Press lightly to help the coating stick.
  6. Serve:
    • Arrange the cheese balls on a serving plate and garnish with extra green onions or bacon if desired.
    • Serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or a sprinkle of smoked paprika to the cheese mixture.
