Sausage and Cheese Puff Pastry Ring Recipe

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 500 grams of sausage meat (you can use any type of sausage you prefer, removed from casings)
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional herbs like parsley or thyme for additional flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage meat with the onion and garlic until fully cooked. Break the meat into small pieces as it cooks.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Set aside to cool slightly.
    • Once slightly cooled, mix in the grated cheese.
  3. Assemble the Pastry Ring:
    • Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
    • Arrange the sausage and cheese mixture down the center of the pastry.
    • Make diagonal cuts along the sides of the pastry about 1 inch apart, then fold these strips over the filling, alternating from side to side to create a braided effect.
    • Connect the ends to form a ring.
  4. Bake:
    • Transfer the pastry ring to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Brush the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden color when baked.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  5. Serve:
    • Let the pastry ring cool for a few minutes before slicing.
    • Serve warm.
