Ingredients:

For the Wontons:

  • 250g ground chicken, pork, or shrimp
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 20–25 wonton wrappers

For the Broth:

  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Garnish:

  • Chopped green onions
  • Fresh cilantro (optional)
  • A splash of chili oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Wontons:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat or shrimp, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
    • Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.
    • Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it into a triangle, and press to seal. Optionally, bring the corners together and pinch to create a traditional wonton shape. Set aside.
  2. Make the Broth:
    • In a large pot, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Sauté the ginger and garlic until fragrant.
    • Add the broth, soy sauce, carrot, cabbage, and mushrooms. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Cook the Wontons:
    • Gently add the prepared wontons to the simmering broth. Cook for 4–5 minutes or until the wontons float to the top and are cooked through.
  4. Serve:
    • Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring each serving gets wontons and vegetables. Garnish with chopped green onions, fresh cilantro, and a splash of chili oil if desired.
