Powdered Sugar-Coated Pastries
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup water (ice-cold)
- 1 cup fruit preserves or jam (your choice of flavor)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the granulated sugar and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the ice-cold water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
- Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll and Fill the Pastries:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
- Cut the dough into small rectangles (approximately 3×2 inches).
- Place a small spoonful of fruit preserves or jam in the center of each rectangle.
- Roll up each rectangle, enclosing the filling, and place the pastries seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the Pastries:
- Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack.
- Coat with Powdered Sugar:
- Once the pastries have cooled, generously coat them with powdered sugar.
- You can use a sifter to evenly distribute the powdered sugar over the pastries.
- Serve:
- Arrange the powdered sugar-coated pastries on a serving platter.
- Enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee!
Feel free to adjust the filling to your liking or try different flavors of fruit preserves. Enjoy baking
