Ham and Cheese Roll Recipe

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced ham
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese or cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to remove any fold lines and make it a bit larger.
    • If using, spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  3. Layer the Fillings:
    • Evenly layer the ham slices over the puff pastry.
    • Top with the cheese slices.
  4. Roll the Pastry:
    • Starting from one of the long sides, carefully roll the pastry into a tight log, making sure the seam side is down.
    • Pinch the edges to seal the roll.
  5. Slice the Roll:
    • Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 1-inch thick slices.
    • Place the slices cut side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Prepare the Egg Wash:
    • Brush the top of each roll with the beaten egg.
    • Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano or Italian seasoning, and garlic powder over the top of the rolls.
  7. Bake the Rolls:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve the ham and cheese rolls warm, with a side of mustard or dipping sauce if desired.
