Ham and Cheese Roll Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1/2 pound thinly sliced ham
- 1/2 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese or cheddar cheese
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to remove any fold lines and make it a bit larger.
- If using, spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Layer the Fillings:
- Evenly layer the ham slices over the puff pastry.
- Top with the cheese slices.
- Roll the Pastry:
- Starting from one of the long sides, carefully roll the pastry into a tight log, making sure the seam side is down.
- Pinch the edges to seal the roll.
- Slice the Roll:
- Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 1-inch thick slices.
- Place the slices cut side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Prepare the Egg Wash:
- Brush the top of each roll with the beaten egg.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano or Italian seasoning, and garlic powder over the top of the rolls.
- Bake the Rolls:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
- Serve:
- Serve the ham and cheese rolls warm, with a side of mustard or dipping sauce if desired.
