Garlic and Herb Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Coarse sea salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
    • Mix until the dough comes together. Turn it onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare Garlic and Herbs:
    • In a small bowl, mix minced garlic, rosemary, and thyme. Set aside.
  5. Shape the Dough:
    • Punch down the risen dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Flatten it slightly and sprinkle the garlic and herb mixture evenly over the dough.
    • Fold the dough over a few times to incorporate the herbs and garlic throughout the dough.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover it with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  7. Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt if desired.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy warm with butter or as a side to your favorite dish.

This garlic and herb bread is perfect for serving with soups, salads, or as an appetizer with a dipping sauce. Enjoy your baking!
