Instructions:

1. Make the Custard:

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it just starts to simmer.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until smooth.
  3. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a boil.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Transfer the custard to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap (pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming), and refrigerate until cool.

2. Make the Strawberry Sauce:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries break down and the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

3. Make the Whipped Cream:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

4. Assemble the Trifle:

  1. In a large trifle bowl, start with a layer of pound cake cubes at the bottom.
  2. Spread a layer of custard over the cake cubes.
  3. Spoon a layer of strawberry sauce over the custard.
  4. Add a layer of whipped cream.
  5. Repeat the layers until the trifle bowl is full, ending with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  6. Garnish with fresh strawberry slices.

5. Chill and Serve:
