Cheesy Ground Beef Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough or rye works well)
  • 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, or American)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • Optional: sliced pickles, mustard, or mayonnaise for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ground Beef:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
    • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
    • Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches:
    • Butter one side of each slice of bread.
    • Place four slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface.
    • Top each slice with one slice of cheese, followed by a generous portion of the ground beef mixture. Add another slice of cheese on top of the beef mixture.
    • Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side up.
  3. Cook the Sandwiches:
    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    • Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Press down gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool slightly before cutting in half.
    • Serve hot, with optional sliced pickles, mustard, or mayonnaise if desired.
