Decadent Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ganache

 

 

Ingredients:

 

For the cake:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the ganache:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz (225g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

  • Chocolate pearls or sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cake:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
    • Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.
    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  2. Bake the cake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Prepare the ganache:
    • Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
    • In a small saucepan, heat the cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
    • Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes to melt the chocolate, then stir until smooth and glossy.
    • Let the ganache cool slightly until it thickens to a spreadable consistency.
  4. Assemble the cake:
    • Place the cooled cake on a serving plate.
    • Pour the ganache over the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
    • Sprinkle chocolate pearls or sprinkles on top of the ganache while it is still wet.
  5. Serve:
    • Let the ganache set at room temperature or refrigerate the cake for a firmer ganache.
    • Slice and enjoy your decadent chocolate cake!
