Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
- 3/4 cup warm water (you may need a little more or less)
- Additional oil or melted butter for cooking and brushing
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Add the oil or melted butter and mix until the mixture is crumbly.
- Gradually add the warm water and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Shape the Flatbreads:
- Divide the dough into equal portions (about 6-8 balls, depending on the size of the flatbreads you want).
- Roll each ball into a thin circle using a rolling pin, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Brush the surface of the rolled dough with a little oil or melted butter.
- Create Layers:
- Fold the rolled dough in half, then in half again to form a triangle.
- Roll out the triangle again into a flat circle or oval shape, maintaining the layered structure.
- Cook the Flatbreads:
- Heat a skillet or pan over medium heat.
- Place the rolled flatbread onto the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form and it turns golden brown.
- Flip the flatbread and cook the other side, brushing with oil or butter as needed.
- Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
- Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the flatbread from the skillet and keep it warm in a clean cloth.
- Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
- Enjoy:
- Serve the flatbreads warm with your favorite dips, curries, or fillings.
These flatbreads are versatile and can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes or even on their own with some butter or yogurt.
