Homemade Crispy Crackers Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or onion powder (optional for flavor)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs or seeds (e.g., poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or oregano)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil or melted butter
- 1/3 cup (80ml) water
- Extra salt for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, garlic powder (if using), and herbs or seeds.
- Add olive oil and mix until crumbly.
- Gradually add water, mixing until the dough comes together. It should be firm but pliable.
- Roll Out the Dough:
- Divide the dough into two portions for easier handling.
- Roll out one portion on a lightly floured surface until very thin (about 1/8 inch or 3mm thick).
- Use a round cutter or a knife to cut out shapes. Poke holes in each cracker with a fork to prevent puffing.
- Bake:
- Place the crackers on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
- Sprinkle with extra salt, if desired.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning.
- Cool:
- Let the crackers cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up further as they cool.
- Serve:
- Serve with dips, cheese, or enjoy them plain as a snack.
