Homemade Potato Chips
Ingredients:
- 2 large potatoes (russet or Yukon Gold)
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying) or cooking spray (for baking)
- Salt to taste
- Optional: paprika, garlic powder, or other seasonings for flavor
Instructions:
For Fried Potato Chips:
- Slice the Potatoes:
- Wash and peel the potatoes (if desired).
- Using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife, slice the potatoes very thin (about 1/16 inch or 1.5 mm thick).
- Soak and Dry:
- Soak the potato slices in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps them crisp up.
- Drain and pat the slices completely dry with paper towels.
- Heat the Oil:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Potatoes:
- Fry the potato slices in small batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown, flipping occasionally.
- Drain and Season:
- Remove the chips with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Sprinkle with salt or your favorite seasoning while still hot.
For Baked Potato Chips:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Potatoes:
- Follow steps 1 and 2 above to slice and dry the potatoes.
- Season and Arrange:
- Toss the potato slices with a little olive oil and arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with salt or seasoning.
- Bake:
- Bake for 10–15 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the chips cool slightly and enjoy!
