Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g (1 lb) ribeye steak, thinly sliced or shaved
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 200g (2 cups) provolone cheese or cheese sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls or soft sandwich buns

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steak:
    • Freeze the ribeye steak for 15 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly. Use a sharp knife to cut against the grain.
  2. Sauté Vegetables:
    • Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions (and green peppers, if using) and cook until soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Set aside.
  3. Cook the Steak:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Add the thinly sliced steak, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Combine:
    • Return the onions and peppers to the skillet with the steak. Mix well and top with slices of provolone cheese or drizzle with cheese sauce. Cover with a lid for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
  5. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Slice the hoagie rolls and lightly toast them. Fill each roll generously with the steak and melted cheese mixture.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve hot and enjoy with a side of fries or your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips:

  • Use a griddle for that authentic Philly experience.
  • Substitute provolone with American cheese or Cheez Whiz for a classic touch.
  • Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
