Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients:
- 500g (1 lb) ribeye steak, thinly sliced or shaved
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
- 200g (2 cups) provolone cheese or cheese sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 hoagie rolls or soft sandwich buns
Instructions:
- Prepare the Steak:
- Freeze the ribeye steak for 15 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly. Use a sharp knife to cut against the grain.
- Sauté Vegetables:
- Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions (and green peppers, if using) and cook until soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Set aside.
- Cook the Steak:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Add the thinly sliced steak, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned.
- Combine:
- Return the onions and peppers to the skillet with the steak. Mix well and top with slices of provolone cheese or drizzle with cheese sauce. Cover with a lid for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
- Assemble the Sandwich:
- Slice the hoagie rolls and lightly toast them. Fill each roll generously with the steak and melted cheese mixture.
- Serve:
- Serve hot and enjoy with a side of fries or your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips:
- Use a griddle for that authentic Philly experience.
- Substitute provolone with American cheese or Cheez Whiz for a classic touch.
- Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
