Baklava Rolls
Ingredients:
For the Pastry:
- 1 package of phyllo dough, thawed
- 2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds), finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the Nut Filling:
- In a bowl, combine the finely chopped nuts and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- Prepare the Phyllo Dough:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- Carefully unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
- Assemble the Baklava Rolls:
- Take one sheet of phyllo dough and place it on a clean surface. Brush it lightly with melted butter.
- Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top of the first one and brush it with butter. Repeat until you have layered about 3-4 sheets.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
- Starting from the long edge, roll the phyllo dough tightly into a log.
- Place the roll in the prepared baking dish. Repeat the process until all the phyllo dough and nut mixture are used up.
- Cut and Bake:
- Using a sharp knife, cut the rolls into desired lengths, about 1-2 inches.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the remaining melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the baklava rolls are golden brown and crispy.
- Prepare the Syrup:
- While the baklava is baking, combine the water, sugar, honey, and lemon juice in a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, until the syrup thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the Syrup:
- Once the baklava rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven.
- Immediately pour the hot syrup evenly over the baklava rolls, ensuring they are well coated.
- Allow the baklava rolls to cool completely to room temperature, so the syrup is fully absorbed.
- Serve:
- Once the baklava rolls are cooled and the syrup is absorbed, they are ready to be served. Enjoy!
