Caramel Chocolate Nut Bars
Ingredients:
For the Crumbly Base:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)
For the Caramel Layer:
- 1 cup caramel candies, unwrapped
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
For the Chocolate Layer:
- 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as peanuts or cashews)
- 1/4 cup toffee bits (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Crumbly Base:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, melted butter, sugar, salt, and chopped nuts until well combined.
- Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Prepare the Caramel Layer:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream.
- Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the caramels are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour the caramel over the cooled base and spread it evenly.
- Prepare the Chocolate Layer:
- While the caramel layer is still warm, sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over the top.
- Allow the chocolate chips to sit for a few minutes until they begin to melt, then spread them into an even layer using a spatula.
- Sprinkle the chopped nuts and toffee bits (if using) over the melted chocolate.
- Set the Bars:
- Let the bars cool at room temperature until the chocolate is set, or place them in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
- Once set, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the pan and onto a cutting board.
- Cut into squares or bars.
