Caramel Frosted Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm milk
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) melted butter
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened

For the Caramel Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and beaten eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Make the Filling

  1. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. Roll out the dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top.

Step 3: Roll and Cut

  1. Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the long edge. Pinch the seam to seal.
  2. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 5: Make the Caramel Frosting

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and heavy cream. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 6: Frost and Serve

  1. Spread the caramel frosting generously over the warm rolls.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy!
