Caramelized Onion Steak
Ingredients:
- 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks, about 1-inch thick
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs for garnish (such as chives or parsley)
Instructions:
- Caramelize the Onions:
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
- Stir in the balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare the Steaks:
- Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter. Heat over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and foamy.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Cook the Steaks:
- Place the steaks in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.
- Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature: 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium, and 150°F (65°C) for well-done.
- Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes.
- Assemble the Dish:
- Top the cooked steaks with the caramelized onions.
- Garnish with fresh herbs, such as chopped chives or parsley.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve the steaks hot with your favorite side dishes.
