Cheese Donuts Recipe
Ingredients
- 200g (1 cup) cottage cheese or ricotta
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- Melted butter or egg wash (for brushing)
- Granulated sugar or shredded cheese (for topping, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough:
- Mash the cottage cheese or ricotta until smooth.
- Mix in the egg, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and knead into a soft dough. If the dough is sticky, dust with a bit more flour.
- Shape the donuts:
- Roll the dough into small balls, flatten them slightly, and use a small round cutter or bottle cap to punch a hole in the center to form a donut shape.
- Coat a cutting board or tray with sugar (or flour, if preferred) and place the shaped donuts on it.
- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Place the donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with melted butter or egg wash and sprinkle with sugar or cheese if desired.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve:
- Let the donuts cool slightly, then enjoy warm or at room temperature.
