Cheesy Ground Beef Sandwich
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough or rye works well)
- 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, or American)
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- Optional: sliced pickles, mustard, or mayonnaise for serving
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ground Beef:
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place four slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface.
- Top each slice with one slice of cheese, followed by a generous portion of the ground beef mixture. Add another slice of cheese on top of the beef mixture.
- Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side up.
- Cook the Sandwiches:
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Press down gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
- Serve:
- Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool slightly before cutting in half.
- Serve hot, with optional sliced pickles, mustard, or mayonnaise if desired.
