Cheesy Potato Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your preferred type)
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1-2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Potatoes: Wash and peel the potatoes. Slice them thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Layer the Ingredients:
    • Grease a baking dish with butter.
    • Arrange a layer of potato slices on the bottom.
    • Add a layer of onion slices (if using).
    • Sprinkle some minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
    • Add a handful of shredded cheese.
    • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
  4. Add Cream: Pour the heavy cream or milk over the layered potatoes. The liquid should almost cover the potatoes, but the top layer should still be visible.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  6. Garnish: Once out of the oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley or dill.
  7. Serve: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

This dish makes a great side or even a main dish, especially when paired with a fresh salad or some roasted vegetables. Enjoy!
