Ingredients:

For the crust and topping:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

For the icing drizzle:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Prepare the crust and topping:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract (if using), baking powder, and salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2. Assemble the base layer:

  • Press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared baking pan to create an even base.

3. Add the cherry filling:

  • In a separate bowl, mix the cherry pie filling with almond extract (if using) for extra flavor. Spread the filling evenly over the crust.

4. Add the topping:

  • Crumble the remaining dough mixture over the cherry layer.

5. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Allow it to cool completely.

6. Drizzle with icing:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the icing over the cooled bars.

7. Serve and enjoy:

  • Once the icing is set, cut into squares or rectangles and serve.
