Classic Baked Meatloaf
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Topping:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp mustard
- Fresh herbs (like parsley or basil), chopped for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, milk, ketchup, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Shape the Loaf: Transfer the mixture to the prepared loaf pan, shaping it to fit.
- Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Spread this mixture over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake: Place the meatloaf in the oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the topping is caramelized.
- Garnish and Serve: Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or other herbs before serving.
