Classic Baked Meatloaf

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Topping:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or basil), chopped for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, milk, ketchup, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Shape the Loaf: Transfer the mixture to the prepared loaf pan, shaping it to fit.
  4. Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Spread this mixture over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake: Place the meatloaf in the oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the topping is caramelized.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or other herbs before serving.
