Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup milk
  • For the Caramel Sauce:
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the Cake Batter:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
    • Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  3. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
  4. Prepare the Caramel Sauce:
    • In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat until butter is melted.
    • Gradually add heavy cream and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, until thickened, stirring constantly.
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  5. Assemble the Cake:
    • Once the cake is cool, pour the warm caramel sauce over the cake. Allow the sauce to set slightly before serving.
  6. Serve:
    • Cut the cake into squares and serve. Each bite promises a blissful taste of rich cake and silky, luxurious caramel.
