Creamy Cheese Sauce for Fries
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Melt the Butter:
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Make the Roux:
- Once the butter is melted, add the flour to the saucepan. Stir continuously with a whisk until the mixture becomes smooth and bubbly, about 1-2 minutes. This is called a roux and will thicken the sauce.
- Add the Milk:
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
- Thicken the Sauce:
- Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the Cheese:
- Reduce the heat to low. Add the shredded cheese to the saucepan, a handful at a time, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Season the Sauce:
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
- Serve:
- Once the cheese sauce is smooth and creamy, remove it from the heat.
- Pour the cheese sauce over hot fries or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.
Enjoy your homemade creamy cheese sauce with fries! It’s a deliciously indulgent treat that’s perfect for snacking or as a side dish.
