Decadent Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ganache
Ingredients:
For the cake:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the ganache:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz (225g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions:
- Prepare the cake:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake the cake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
- Prepare the ganache:
- Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
- Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes to melt the chocolate, then stir until smooth and glossy.
- Let the ganache cool slightly until it thickens to a spreadable consistency.
- Assemble the cake:
- Place the cooled cake on a serving plate.
- Pour the ganache over the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
- Sprinkle chocolate pearls or sprinkles on top of the ganache while it is still wet.
- Serve:
- Let the ganache set at room temperature or refrigerate the cake for a firmer ganache.
