“Decadent Pecan Sticky Buns”

 

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 egg plus 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 3 cups bread flour
    • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the filling:
    • 2/3 cup brown sugar
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • For the topping:
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
    • 1/4 cup honey
    • 1 cup pecans, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and egg yolk. Mix until the dough comes together.
    • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  2. Prepare the topping:
    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter with brown sugar and honey over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
    • Pour the mixture into the bottom of a greased baking pan, and sprinkle evenly with chopped pecans.
  3. Prepare the filling:
    • Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
    • Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the softened butter over the dough, and sprinkle evenly with the sugar-cinnamon mixture.
  4. Assemble the buns:
    • Roll up the dough tightly from one long end to the other and slice into 12 equal pieces.
    • Place the pieces in the prepared baking pan with the pecan topping.
    • Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  5. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
    • Allow to cool slightly in the pan, then invert onto a serving plate so that the pecans are on top.
