Golden Raisin Spiral Bread

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs (1 for dough, 1 for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup raisins (or other dried fruits)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and 1 beaten egg.
    • Add the activated yeast mixture and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Add Raisins:
    • Gently knead the raisins (or dried fruits) into the dough until evenly distributed.
  4. Proof the Dough:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Shape the Bread:
    • Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle.
    • Roll the rectangle into a spiral, starting from one edge, and coil it into a spiral shape on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Egg Wash:
    • Beat the remaining egg and brush it generously over the dough for a golden, shiny finish.
  7. Second Proof:
    • Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for 30-40 minutes.
  8. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
