Instructions
-
Prepare the berries: Wash the berries thoroughly. If using strawberries, hull and chop them. In a large saucepan, combine all the berries.
-
Cook the mixture: Place the berries over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, until they begin to soften and release juice.
-
Mash the berries: Use a potato masher or fork to mash the berries to your desired consistency. If you prefer smooth jam, you can blend the mixture briefly.
-
Add sugar and lemon: Stir in the sugar and lemon juice, and bring the mixture to a simmer. If using pectin, follow the instructions on the packet to add it at the right time.
-
Simmer and thicken: Let the jam cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently. It will begin to thicken as the water evaporates. To test if it’s ready, place a small spoonful on a chilled plate and tilt it—if it doesn’t run, it’s done.

Cool and store: Let the jam cool for 10 minutes, then transfer it to sterilized jars. Seal tightly and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
