Homemade Glazed Donuts Recipe

 

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed (about 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Oil for frying

Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
    • Add the yeast mixture to the egg mixture and mix well.
    • Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape the Donuts:
    • Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
    • Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large and one small) to cut out donut shapes.
    • Place the cut donuts and donut holes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  3. Fry the Donuts:
    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
    • Carefully fry the donuts a few at a time, for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to drain.
  4. Prepare the Glaze:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Dip each warm donut into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off.
    • Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack to set.
  5. Serve:
    • Enjoy the donuts warm or at room temperature.
