Ingredients:

  • For the Meatloaf:
    • 1 kg ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
    • 1 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 2 eggs
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • For the Topping:
    • 2 cups marinara sauce
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
  2. Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, eggs, milk, grated Parmesan, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil.
    • Mix everything together until well combined.
  3. Shape and Bake:
    • Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
  4. Add Topping:
    • Remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the marinara sauce evenly over the top.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
    • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes.
    • Garnish with freshly chopped basil or parsley before serving.
  6. Serve:
    • Slice the meatloaf and serve it warm. It pairs wonderfully with a side of roasted vegetables or a light salad.
