No-Knead Bread
Introduction
No-knead bread is a simple and delicious way to bake fresh bread at home. This method requires minimal effort and produces a loaf with a chewy crust and a soft, airy crumb. The long fermentation time allows the flavors to develop and the gluten to relax, resulting in a tender and flavorful loaf.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 3/4 cups water
Instructions:
- Combine ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the yeast and water and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Cover and let rise:
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 12-18 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size.
- Shape the dough:
- Gently turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a round loaf and place it in a floured Dutch oven or a cast iron pot. Cover the pot with a lid and let it rise for another hour.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Carefully remove the lid from the pot and bake the bread for 30 minutes. Then, remove the lid and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C).
