Recipe for Cheesy Potato Gratin

Ingredients:

  • For the Gratin:
    • 4-5 large potatoes, peeled
    • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a mix of your favorite melting cheeses)
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • For the Topping:
    • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
    • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional for extra crunch)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Grease a baking dish with a little butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Grate and Mix Potatoes:
    • Grate the potatoes using a coarse grater and place them in a large mixing bowl.
    • Add the minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  3. Layer the Potatoes:
    • Place a layer of grated potato mixture in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese over the potatoes.
    • Repeat the layers until all the potato mixture and cheese are used up, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  4. Add Cream and Toppings:
    • Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layered potatoes and cheese.
    • If using breadcrumbs, mix them with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese and sprinkle this on top for a crunchy finish.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Let the gratin cool slightly before serving to allow it to set, making it easier to slice.
    • Serve warm as a hearty side dish to meats or as a satisfying vegetarian main course.

This Cheesy Potato Gratin is a comforting and indulgent dish that pairs wonderfully with a variety of meals, offering a rich and creamy texture with a crispy, cheesy topping. Enjoy your meal!
