Recipe for Sweet Dough Cookies (Ghoriba)

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
    • Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  2. Shape and Coat the Cookies:
    • Once the dough is chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Shape the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
    • Roll each ball in powdered sugar until well coated.
  3. Bake the Cookies:
    • Place the sugar-coated dough balls on a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The cookies should have a cracked appearance on the surface.
  4. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • Once cooled, give them an additional dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

These cookies are wonderfully soft on the inside with a slight crisp on the outside, and the powdered sugar adds a beautiful sweet finish that makes them irresistible. Perfect for teatime or as a treat for special occasions!
