Savory Blue Cheese and Pecan Puff Pastries
Ingredients:
For the Pastry:
- 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
For the Filling:
- 1 cup crumbled blue cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup pecans, roughly chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For Garnish:
- Fresh thyme sprigs
- Additional pecans, whole or halved
- A drizzle of honey (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface to smooth them out.
- Cut each sheet into squares (about 4×4 inches).
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a medium bowl, mix the crumbled blue cheese, cream cheese, and heavy cream until well combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Gently fold in the chopped pecans and fresh thyme leaves.
- Assemble the Pastries:
- Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
- Fold the corners of each square towards the center, slightly overlapping them, and press down gently to seal.
- Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet.
- Egg Wash:
- Brush the beaten egg over the tops and edges of the pastries to give them a golden, glossy finish when baked.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Garnish each pastry with a fresh thyme sprig and a few additional pecans.
- Optionally, drizzle with honey for a touch of sweetness.
- Serve warm.
