Savory Meat Turnovers Recipe

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 500g puff pastry dough
  • 300g minced beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • Heat a pan over medium heat, add a little oil, and cook the onions until soft.
    • Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
    • Add the minced meat, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is browned. Set aside to cool.
  2. Assemble the Turnovers:
    • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
    • Cut into rounds using a large cookie cutter.
    • Spoon the meat mixture onto half of each round, leaving a margin at the edge.
    • Fold the dough over the filling to form a semi-circle. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  3. Cook the Turnovers:
    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
    • Brush each turnover with beaten egg.
    • Fry the turnovers until golden and crispy, about 3-5 minutes on each side.
    • Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
