Savory Sausage and Cheese Muffins Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground sausage (mild or spicy, according to preference)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease the cups.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, milk, and eggs, whisking until smooth.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the cooked sausage, 1 cup of the shredded cheese, and green onions if using.
  6. Fill Muffin Tins: Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top of each muffin.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Variations:

  • Vegetable Addition: Add finely chopped bell peppers or spinach for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Spicy Kick: Use spicy sausage and add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicier version.
  • Cheese Variations: Substitute cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese, such as Monterey Jack or pepper jack.

These savory muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack, offering a delightful combination of cheesy goodness and flavorful sausage.
