Sizzling Asian Beef Stir-Fry
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds beef (such as flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 large onions, sliced into half-moons
- 2 green bell peppers, thinly sliced (optional)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
Marinade/Sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth
Instructions:
- Prepare the Marinade:
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, black pepper, and water or beef broth until smooth.
- Place the sliced beef in the marinade and let it sit for at least 15 minutes, or up to an hour in the refrigerator.
- Stir-Fry the Beef:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Remove the beef from the marinade (keep the marinade) and stir-fry in batches, ensuring not to crowd the pan, until the beef is browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef and set aside.
- Cook the Vegetables:
- In the same skillet or wok, add another tablespoon of oil if needed.
- Add the sliced onions, bell peppers, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir-fry until the vegetables are just tender but still crisp.
- Combine and Simmer:
- Return the beef to the skillet with the vegetables.
- Pour the remaining marinade over the top and bring to a simmer. Cook together for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce has thickened and everything is heated through.
- Serve:
- Serve the stir-fry hot over steamed rice or noodles.
- Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.
