Soft and Fluffy Herb Dinner Rolls
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups (450g) all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
- 1 cup (240ml) warm milk (not hot, around 110°F/45°C)
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 4 tablespoons (60g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
- 1 tablespoon dried herbs (like oregano, parsley, or Italian seasoning)
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic (optional, for garlic herb rolls)
Instructions:
- Activate Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over it and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead Dough:
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape Rolls:
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 16 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and arrange them in a greased baking dish, leaving slight gaps between them for expansion.
- Second Rise:
- Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap or a cloth and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Add Topping:
- Mix melted butter with dried herbs and minced garlic (if using). Brush this mixture generously over the risen rolls.
- Bake:
- Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Final Touch:
- Brush the warm rolls with additional melted butter if desired. Let them cool slightly before serving.
