Spicy Stir-Fried Beef with Scallions

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • For the Beef:
    • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • For the Sauce:
    • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
    • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
    • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/4 cup water
  • For the Stir-Fry:
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1-inch ginger, finely chopped
    • 1 red chili, thinly sliced (adjust based on heat preference)
    • 1 medium onion, sliced
    • 2-3 scallions, cut into 1-inch pieces
    • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil.
    • Add the beef slices, mix well, and let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and water. Set aside.
  3. Stir-Fry the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
    • Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned (about 2-3 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook the Aromatics:
    • In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil.
    • Stir-fry garlic, ginger, and red chili until fragrant (30 seconds).
  5. Combine Ingredients:
    • Add the onion and stir-fry until slightly softened.
    • Return the beef to the pan, pour in the sauce, and toss to coat everything evenly.
    • Add the scallions and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish with more sliced scallions or sesame seeds if desired.
    • Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Tips:

  • You can substitute beef with chicken or tofu for variety.
  • For extra heat, add crushed chili flakes or another sliced red chili.
