Stuffed Savory Bread
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (or milk)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
For the Filling:
- 1 cup pitted olives (green or black), chopped
- Optional: 1 cup cooked ground meat, sausage, or cheese cubes
- Herbs (oregano, thyme, or parsley)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and knead until a soft dough forms.
- Add olive oil and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling:
- Chop olives and combine them with herbs and any optional fillings like ground meat or cheese.
- Assemble the Bread:
- Divide the dough into 2 portions. Roll out each portion into a flat round shape.
- Spread the olive and filling mixture evenly over one side. Fold or layer the dough as desired.
- Shape and Brush:
- Place the prepared dough rounds on parchment paper-lined baking trays. Flatten slightly.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden crust.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread turns golden and crispy.
- Serve:
