Sushi Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 cups sushi rice
- 5 cups water
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 10 sheets nori (seaweed)
- 1 large avocado, thinly sliced
- 1/2 lb fresh salmon, thinly sliced
- 1 cucumber, julienned
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds (black and white)
- Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving
Instructions:
- Cook Sushi Rice:
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the machine’s instructions.
- Once cooked, let it sit for 10 minutes, then mix in a combination of rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
- Layer the Sushi Cake:
- Line a round cake pan with plastic wrap for easy removal.
- Start with a layer of sushi rice, pressing it down into the bottom of the pan.
- Add a layer of nori, followed by slices of cucumber, carrot, and salmon.
- Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of sushi rice.
- Assemble the Toppings:
- Carefully invert the cake onto a serving platter.
- Arrange the sliced avocado on top of the rice, covering it completely.
- Sprinkle the top with a mix of black and white sesame seeds.
- Serve:
- Serve immediately with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the sushi cake into wedges.
